"Troop News For December 2008"
We’ve had a very full first half of the year, and we’ve accomplished a lot! Since we started our year, we have:
Sold cookies…over 2,000 boxes, earning over $1,200 in profit for our troop! Way to go!!
Completed TWO Cadette Interest Projects, which is a HUGE deal. The girls have worked very hard and we’re very proud!
Sold 61 boxes of cookies for the Maryland Food Bank; they’ll have them to give in time for Christmas!
Created beautiful gifts to give to the residents at our local nursing home!
Learned about the law, the court system, held our very own debate, and our first mock-trial! We had so much fun, we’re talking about doing another mock trial at camp in January!
It’s been a busy couple of months, and special thanks to all the parents who help to make our troop possible!
A few announcements that we need everyone to know:
Saturday, December 6: Holiday caroling at Marley Station Mall. Please meet outside Hollister at 4:45 pm. We’ll finish at approximately 6:00pm. We’re a small group, so families are MOST welcome! Girls should be sure to wear their vests for this event. Permission slips coming by email.
Monday, December 8: Regular meeting will be held at St. Andrews. St. Andrews will be hosting a food shelter during this time, and our troop will be assisting with the food preparation and serving. An email with further details is forthcoming. Permission slips coming by email.
Saturday, December 13: Gift wrapping at Marley Station Mall. We are assigned to work the session from 11:00am to 3:00pm. We will have 2 shifts of girls; girls must sign-up for either 11-1pm or 1-3pm shifts. We must have at least 5 girls/adults at all times. Parents welcome to participate as well. This is a fundraising activity, as well as an opportunity to sell our remaining cookies for Maryland Food Bank or deployed troops overseas.
Monday, December 15: Regular meeting
Monday,
December 22: Troop 162
Christmas Party!!! Please bring a
wrapped gift valued between $5-$10 for a gift exchange game. We’ll have games, food, and music galore!!
Lots of fun to be had, so we’re looking forward to a great time!!
Saturday,
January 10: Your Own Business
field trip to Bel Air, MD. This is
a requirement for our Silver Award, so we’re gonna knock it out.
Lots of fun according to other girls who have attended.
Also, we’re hosting Thinking Day this year, to be held in April. The girls have decided to take responsibility for researching and presenting a country, in pairs. We’ll be assigning countries at our Christmas Party, so the girls should be thinking about the country they want to represent.
Thanks to everyone for a successful year! We have some exciting events coming up, so stay tuned for more!
